Domestic insurance market is newly included in domestic technical & professional education system. In response to the trend of liberalization and internationalization, domestic market is opened to foreign insurance companies. The insurance industry is gradually growing and stepping into its maturity. As there are still a lot of spaces of expansion, the demands for personnel in this field are urgent so as to meet flourish development of insurance industry in foreseeable future.

　Considering the importance of insurance, after intensive discussions by a group of scholars and specialists of this university, the Department of Risk Management and Insurance, based on the blueprint of segmentation of service relative departments from other technique institutions, has been growing rapidly via efforts of faculty and students. A graduate school in this field was then established.

　Department of Risk Management & Insurance was established in July 1997. The objectives of its establishment are to cultivate insurance specialists wildly welcomed by insurance sector as well as industrial & commercial sectors, and to engage in practice focused research and service promotion to assist the industry in problem-solving, in response to financial internationalization liberalization as well as the policy and the trend of overall open of insurance market set up by the government.

　Insurance service is one of the hot industries that will be fast developing in Taiwan . The role of providing risk prevention and fund supply will be more remarkable. Following this trend, the establishment of Department of Insurance Operation that combining theories and practices not only provides the insurance operation specialists required in national economic development, but also sets up an education norm with perspective for professional education. The Department of Insurance Operation, the former name of this department, was renamed as "Department of Risk Management & Insurance" as approved by the Ministry of Education. New name of will make direction of this department to follow the trend of risk management and to be more specialized.
